Dr. Anita Kumar, Psychiatrist

Dr. Anita Kumar [she/her] is a board-certified adult psychiatrist with a certificate in psychedelic assisted therapy (PAT) and 25 years’ clinical and administrative experience. Dr. Kumar earned her medical degree with distinction from Northwestern University Medical School. Her psychiatry training and departmental chief residency were completed at the University of Michigan. Dr. Kumar’s experience lies in the interface between psychedelics and psychiatry, severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI), and eating disorders (ED). She was trained by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Science (MAPS) in MDMA assisted therapy and by the Integrative Psychiatry Institute in ketamine (FDA approved) and psilocybin assisted therapy.
Dr. Kumar is the former medical director of a Community Mental Health and was on faculty at Virginia Tech and the University of Michigan medical schools. She has experience in Nurse Practitioner supervision, psychiatry resident training, and medical student education. She has practiced at many levels of care, including hospital psychiatry consultation/liaison, inpatient hospitalization, acute treatment unit, crisis stabilization unit, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient.
Dr. Kumar currently assesses for and manages traditional psychiatric medications, FDA approved psychedelics (Ketamine), and starting February 2024 – transcranial magnetic stimulation. She is comfortable treating a wide array of psychiatric conditions including depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma disorders, and bipolar mood disorder. She welcomes the LGBTQIA+ population. She sees adult patients (18 years and older) who reside in the state of Colorado. From the perspective of a second-generation Asian-Indian in the US, she has led DEI trainings in the past and currently aspires to serve the BIPOC diaspora in Northern Colorado.
