Karen Lockwood, Licensed Professional Counselor
I am a licensed professional counselor and a licensed addictions counselor. Originally from New York State, I came to Colorado after completing my bachelor of science in psychology. I spent a few years working at Beaver Creek, enjoying all that the Colorado mountains have to offer. I recognized my passion for mental health and moved to Denver to pursue my master’s degree. While completing my degree, I worked in a memory unit providing care for Alzheimer’s and dementia residents. I have a master of arts in counseling from Regis University and have experience working with a wide range of mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders. I spent seven years working in community mental health prior to working for Denver Wellness Associates.
I am trained in acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and schema therapy. During sessions, we will work on understanding what challenges you are experiencing and utilize appropriate therapeutic techniques to work towards our goals. I believe in fostering a strong therapeutic relationship and creating an environment that is safe and allows you to explore your vulnerabilities.

Jamie Hall, Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate
I am a licensed professional counselor candidate and nationally certified counselor here at Denver Wellness. I am a Colorado local and loved growing up surrounded by the beauty of this state! I realized my passion for helping and mental health while working as a mentor for international students in college. I earned my bachelor’s at Colorado Mesa University in counseling psychology and a master’s in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Northern Colorado.
I am passionate about walking alongside my clients as they embark on their mental health journey to improve their overall quality of life. During my education, I had the opportunity to work with a diverse client population ranging from neurodivergent and developmentally disabled children, at-risk youth and families, college students, and adults with a range of diagnoses, in day treatment and outpatient settings. Areas I am especially interested in include ADHD and Autism, providing affirming care for LGBTQIA+ and other marginalized populations, and mood and anxiety disorders.
I have experience in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and and love to incorporate these therapies with a humanistic and person-centered approach. I believe that the therapeutic alliance is a powerful tool in creating a safe container to explore your identity, cognitive schemas, individual needs, and vulnerabilities. Together we will identify the challenges that you are wanting to address, and utilize evidence-based skills and techniques to improve your overall functioning to achieve your goals.

Kendall LaVora, Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate
I am a licensed professional counselor candidate and nationally certified counselor. I am from the East Coast, where I completed my Bachelors degree in Psychology in New Jersey as well as my Masters in Clinical and Counseling Psychology in Philadelphia, PA! I developed a love for helping others in the counseling field when I was in high school. Since then, I have worked towards my goal of becoming a child and adolescent therapist through childcare, crisis intervention, leadership positions in extracurriculars and completing higher-level education. Throughout my education, I had the pleasure to gain various experiences in the field. A few of which are music therapy, research assistance, managerial roles, and providing therapy for underprivileged kids in community mental health centers. Prior to working at Denver Wellness Associates, I was an outpatient therapist for children and adolescents in Denver.
I am certified in trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy, which many of my clients benefitted from. I also have experience in play therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and operate from a client-centered and trauma-informed lense. I have worked with clients presenting with anxiety, depression, abuse, unstable family dynamics, autism spectrum disorder, mood disorders, behavioral challenges and ADHD.I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect to successful treatment. Collaborating with the client through every step of the treatment allows the client to feel equal and empowered. I also foster communication and improved relationships between the client and their caregivers when appropriate. Identifying patterns, perspectives and emotions allows for the client to feel safe and achieve their goals alongside a supportive counselor.
